Mattresses absorb and retain bodily fluids deep into foam and spring layers, and carrying one out of a bedroom releases hazardous dust particles combined with biohazards into the air. Those particles are breathed in and attach to clothing, flooring, walls, hair and people, which is why removal is handled as a containment task and not a furniture collection.

Bedframe and floor checked first
Mattress removal does not include the bedframe unless you ask for it. Before we start we check the bedframe, slats and the carpet underneath the bed so every visible biohazard is captured in the quote — fluids very often run past the mattress edge onto the frame and into the carpet below. Manual disinfection add-on
Where required we add manual disinfection cleaning: physical removal and treatment of left-over blood, body parts, urine, excrement and other biological residue on the frame, floor, skirtings and walls, before the fogging and electrostatic treatment is applied.

Is disinfection included with mattress removal?
Yes. Sanondaf fogging and electrostatic spray high-spectrum disinfection is included as standard with every biohazard mattress removal. Moving a contaminated mattress launches hazardous dust particles combined with biohazards into the air, where they are breathed in and settle on flooring, walls, clothing, hair and people. The fogging and electrostatic treatment decontaminates those particles and reaches surfaces a cloth never touches.
Does mattress removal include the bedframe?
No — the bedframe is not included unless you request it. A bedframe can only be taken alongside a mattress, and starts from £100. We always check the bedframe and the carpet underneath the bed before we start, so any visible biohazards on the frame, slats or floor are included in the quote rather than left behind.
How much does biohazard mattress removal cost?
Single mattress removal, quarantined transport and incineration starts from £250. A double mattress starts from £400. A bedframe, only when taken with a mattress, starts from £100. Whole carpet removal, transport and incineration starts from £200. Terms depend on the type of biohazard or hazard, the staining type, penetration of fluids and staining, the location, and access and loading areas.
What happens to the mattress after it is removed?
The mattress is wrapped and quarantined at source so contamination is not tracked through the property, transported by a licensed carrier and destroyed by incineration with heat treatment. You receive the accompanying legal paperwork — duty of care documentation (DOC) and hazardous waste consignment notes — for your records, insurer or solicitor.
Why can't a contaminated mattress simply be cleaned?
Bodily fluids soak through the ticking into foam and spring layers where no cleaning method can verify decontamination, and mattresses are frequently classified as hazardous once contaminated. Where an item is soaked, infested or associated with an unattended death, removal and incineration is the compliant route rather than surface cleaning.
Can you also clean the remaining blood and biological residue?
Yes, as an add-on we provide manual disinfection cleaning, covering left-over blood, body parts, urine, excrement and other biological residue on the frame, floor, skirtings and walls, carried out before the fogging and electrostatic disinfection is applied.
